Members of the Sun Conference have competed to be crowned the cumulative conference champion since its days as the NAIC. The Commissioner’s Cup is awarded to the school who best exhibits success over the course of the academic calendar year across each of the 15 individual sports seasons. The Cup first appeared as the All-Sports Trophy, known by that name up until 2003-2004, a name very descriptive of its actual function, presented to the school with the highest total score based on their conference standings finish at each season’s end. Points are awarded in descending order to each participating school, starting at 9, the maximum score a team receives for a first place finish. Second place receives 8; third place receives 7, continuing downward until zero is reached. A bonus point is awarded to winners of post-season tournaments. The most dominant athletic program over the course of Cup history has been the Embry Riddle Eagles, taking home Commissioner’s Cup honors in 11 straight years from 1999-2000 to 2009-2010. The second winningest program is Nova Southeastern University who established a dynasty of its own in the 90′s taking the honors in 1992-1993, 1994-1995, 1995-1996, 1996-1997 and 1998-1999. St. Thomas won the title in both 1993-1994 and 1997-1998, while Webber International won the inaugural trophy in 1990-1991 and Flagship held the hardware the following year in 1991-1992.
